The second annual SPERRYAOKE contest is this weekend. Entries are limited to approximately 25 singers, and you must be nominated by an area KJ. Have your sponsoring KJ contact organizer LARRY BRIGGS at larryb@stringswest.com or 918-288-2222 ASAP!

The competition is this Saturday, June 13 at 9AM at the Sperry Gazebo. Sperry is 12 miles northwest of downtown Tulsa on HWY 11.

On a karaoke-related note, this past week we visited THE LAUGHING WENCH in Jenks, where Jules runs the karaoke. It's a pretty small place, but had a lot going for it. We enjoyed the fact that the music volume was considerably lower than most places - you can actually carry on a conversation there. It's also non-smoking (it's so nice coming home and not smelling like an ashtray). Earlier in the evening, it's family-friendly, so it's a great place to take your kids so they can listen to you sing. They serve food if you get there early, and it's not half bad! Around 10PM the kids all go home and it's a little more adult-oriented. Jules really made sure everybody had a great time, and a great time is what we had. We also recently visited Connie at GreyBeard's in Collinsville. Karaoke took place out on the patio, and it was a beautiful night and a really good time. GreyBeard's has really good burgers, and the service is great. The place was not terribly crowded - just enough to have a decent audience for the singers. Sound was awesome, as always with Connie's shows, and even though most singers sang country, I think you could sing pretty much anything here and be appreciated. Another thumbs-up from our crew!
